John E. Blasius, 69, of Danielson, CT entered into eternal rest on Saturday July 11, 2020 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a short illness. He was born December 27, 1950 to the late Joseph and Geraldine (Hickey) Blasius. John was raised in Hamden, CT and attended Paul Smith’s College, where he obtained a degree in forestry. He later completed his master’s degree and became an educator in the New Britain Public School system and the Waterford Country School system. John spent many years as a Hamden Volunteer Fireman and enriched many a young man’s life through his leadership in the Boy Scouts of America. John was known for his numerous lifelong friends.

Beloved husband of Linda J. Durand-Blasius, John was a loving father of Amanda and Jeremiah (Moe) Blasius of Daytona, Florida and stepfather of Candace Gendreau of Plainfield, CT and Pamela Durand of Danielson, CT. Cherished grandfather of Lisa Stromsky, Anakin Blasius-Stromsky, Josiah Blasius, Dearb’Hail Blasius, Khaleesi Blasius, Tyler Blasius and Spencer Blasius. Step-grandfather of Dylan Gendreau and great-grandfather of Charlie Stromsky and Liam Scott.

John is also survived by sisters Joan Longley of Hamden, CT, Jeraldine and Roger Wortman of Myrtle Beach, NC, Jean and John Nizen of Westbrook, CT, and Janet and Arthur Kassel of Agoura Hills, CA and brother Joseph and Gail Blasius of Ferrisburgh, VT.

John was an ingenious multi-skilled craftsman and he enjoyed building and remodeling his homes. He was an extremely generous individual who enjoyed challenging and debating any topic. He always was the center of laughter and family mirth. A funeral service will be held at a later date.
